Meet the heart of In The Deep! Our teachers are the magic-makers who turn worried children into confident swimmers.

Teacher Consistency – Our Promise to You

We work hard to keep the same friendly face teaching your child each week, because that teacher-student bond matters. While we can’t guarantee the exact same teacher every single week (life happens—holidays, illness, family commitments), we can absolutely guarantee:

✓ Consistent Excellence – Every teacher is trained in our identical program
✓ Warm, Expert Instruction – All our teachers are specially selected for their ability to build confidence
✓ Same High Standards – Whether it’s Teacher A or Teacher B, your child gets the same In The Deep magic
✓ Clear Communication – We’ll always let you know about any changes in advance

What We Absolutely CAN Guarantee

Every teacher in the water with your child:

  • Is fully trained in our unique teaching method
  • Holds recognised industry qualifications (AUSTSWIM or Swim Australia)
  • Has current First Aid, CPR, and Working with Children Check
  • Completes our specialised In The Deep training program
  • Brings warmth, patience, and genuine care to every lesson

Why Our Teachers Are Special

We don’t just hire good swimmers—we find people who love working with children, share our values of ease, empowerment, creativity and fun, and embrace our philosophy of building confidence first. Our teachers are character builders, confidence boosters, and genuine water enthusiasts who make swimming the highlight of your child’s week.

Questions About Your Teacher?

Your child is in expert hands! Questions about qualifications, teaching style, or any changes? We’re always here to chat and ensure you feel completely comfortable with your child’s swimming journey.

Welcome to our aquatic wonderland! Our pool isn’t just beautiful—it’s been thoughtfully designed to create the perfect learning environment where swimmers of all ages can flourish.

Temperature Perfect for Learning

Our indoor 25-metre heated pool maintains a beautifully toasty 32°C to 33°C—warm enough for tiny water babies, perfect for confident squad swimmers, and just right for everyone in between! The 25-metre length provides plenty of space for all our programs, while the indoor setting means no weather worries—lessons happen rain or shine!

Healthy, Clean Water – The Deep Difference

In June 2019, we made moves by upgrading to the world-leading Biozone AOP (Advanced Oxidation Process) system. This isn’t just any pool—your child swims in water that’s cleaner and healthier than most!

Our AOP magic combines UV light technology, ozone purification, and minimal chlorine to create the ultimate clean water experience.

What This Means For Your Family:
✓ No stinging eyes (free of harsh chloramines)
✓ No itchy skin after swimming (gentle on sensitive skin)
✓ No strong “pool smell” (just fresh, clean water)
✓ Enhanced virus protection for everyone’s health and safety

We’re proud to be a Healthy Swim accredited venue! Want to dive deeper? Check out our blog for the fascinating details.

New Student Assessments (Ages 3+)

Why We Assess
At In The Deep, we run a skill-based program where every child is placed exactly where they’ll thrive—not just based on age, but on their unique abilities and comfort level in the water.

How It Works
Your child will spend 10 minutes in the water with one of our friendly instructors while a supervisor observes. No pressure, no stress—just a gentle opportunity to see what skills they already have and find their perfect starting point.

Why This Matters
Starting at the right level means your child experiences wins from day one, building confidence instead of frustration. It’s also a wonderful chance for you both to meet our team, see our beautiful chloramine-free pool, and get your bearings before regular lessons begin.

We’re super excited to welcome you to our In The Deep family! Your first visit is the beginning of an amazing swimming journey, and we want to make sure it flows as smoothly as possible. Here’s everything you need to know to make your first splash with us absolutely swimmingly!

How to Find Us

We’re located in The Juniors Fitness Club, Level 3, 558 Anzac Parade, Kingsford.

Getting There: The club entrance is on Anzac Parade, directly opposite the Light Rail station (super convenient!). Take the lift or escalators up to Level 3 where our pool is located. Parking is available on Anzac Parade past the club – just head right as you pass the Light Rail Station, and club members can use the underground parking just to the right of Reception.

Entering the Club

The Juniors Club operates under the Registered Clubs Act, which just means they need to check a few details when you arrive – don’t worry, our team will guide you through everything! Water we talking about exactly? Just some quick ID checks to keep everyone safe and sound.

For New Student Assessments: Let reception staff know you’re here for a swim assessment (not yet enrolled in classes yet). You’ll need to show ID to enter – totally normal! Staff will direct you straight to the pool area, and when you reach Level 3, let the Fitness Centre staff know you’re here for a Swim Assessment and they’ll point you in the right direction.

For Your First Lesson: All adults entering the club need to be members – we recommend allowing a bit of extra time to sign up at your first lesson because it’s quick and easy! Let the Level 3 Fitness Centre staff know you’re here for a Swimming Lesson and they’ll help you navigate to where you need to be.

Finding Us at the Pool

Once you’re in the pool area, look for our Customer Service Desk on the left hand side – that’s where our friendly team will be waiting to help you dive right into this exciting swimming adventure! We’re always current on what’s happening and ready to help you make waves in your swimming journey.

What to Expect

We know first visits can feel a little overwhelming, but there’s no need to feel out of your depth – we’ve got everything under control! Our team will walk you through our approach, answer any questions that bubble up, and make sure you feel completely at ease. After all, when families feel relaxed and supported, that’s when the real magic happens in the water.

Questions about your first visit? Don’t hesitate to reach out – we’re here to make sure your first experience is absolutely fin-tastic!

Here’s what you and your child need for swimming lessons at In The Deep.

The Essentials

Swimming costume or togs – One-piece for girls, swim trunks or jammers for boys
Swimming cap – Required for all swimmers (available for purchase at the pool)
Swim nappies – Required for children under 3 or recently toilet trained
Goggles – Depends on your level (see below)
Towel – For after the lesson

Swimming Caps (Required for Everyone)

All swimmers wear caps at In The Deep. Caps keep hair out of faces during learning, help swimmers stay warmer, keep our water cleaner, and create consistency for everyone.

Need a cap? We sell a range to suit all needs—from gentle polyester for sensitive heads to durable silicone for regular swimmers. Our staff are happy to help you choose.

Swim Nappies (Under 3 Years)

All children under 3 years or those toilet trained for less than 6 months need approved swim nappies with thick bands around the legs.

Important: Regular disposable nappies absorb water and lose their shape. Only approved swim nappies work in the pool.

Need swim nappies? We sell approved swim nappies at the pool.

Goggles (Level-Dependent)

Thanks to our advanced water purification system, our pool is free from the harsh chloramines that cause stinging eyes in traditional chlorine pools.

Our approach to goggles:
Squirts programs: Goggles aren’t recommended—we want little ones comfortable underwater naturally first, without relying on equipment.
Tails and beyond: Goggles are welcome! They help with underwater vision as we continue building skills. We still practice some activities without goggles to maintain confidence.

Need advice? Chat with our staff before purchasing—we’ll help you choose the right pair for your child’s level.

Swimwear (Keep It Streamlined)

What works best: One-piece costumes, swim trunks, jammers, or short to medium board shorts.

What to avoid: Wetsuits (add unwanted buoyancy), loose rash shirts (create drag), and long board shorts (too much fabric restricts movement).

Why streamlined matters: Children are learning how their body moves and floats in water. Streamlined swimwear helps them develop natural body awareness and proper technique without interference.

Forgot Something?

We sell essentials at the pool—swimming caps, goggles, and approved swim nappies. Our team is always happy to help.

The best equipment? The water itself. We believe learning to float and feel the water naturally is fundamental to real swimming skills—so we keep our equipment simple and purposeful, never letting anything interfere with that essential connection.

Why We Don’t Use Flotation Devices

We want your child to develop genuine water confidence and swimming skills, not dependence on flotation aids. When children rely on floaties, arm bands, or other flotation devices, they don’t learn proper body position or develop the natural feel for buoyancy that makes them truly safe in water.

Want to learn more? Read our blog post: “Is Your Child Really Safe With That Flotation Device?” for a deeper look at our philosophy.

What We Do Use (And Why)

Pool Noodles
Perfect for beginners who need gentle support while learning to float. We use them for playful activities like horsey rides and motorboat games that build water confidence while keeping lessons fun and engaging.

Pool Toys
Sometimes children need extra motivation to venture into deeper water or try new skills. We choose toys that encourage movement and exploration, making lessons feel like play while building important capabilities.

Swimming Rings
These encourage children to practice going underwater and build confidence in submersion skills. They create achievable goals that motivate progress and make underwater exploration exciting rather than intimidating.

Kickboards
Kickboards support proper body position while children focus on developing strong leg technique. By isolating one skill at a time, children can build solid foundations without becoming overwhelmed.

Fins
We only introduce fins at advanced stroke levels (Wings and Squads). Young children need to feel the water with their feet first to develop strong, natural kicking technique. Once proper form is established, fins help refine and strengthen their strokes.

Our Equipment Philosophy

Every piece of equipment we use has a clear purpose—to help your child develop real swimming skills, build genuine confidence, and progress toward independent swimming. Our expert teachers know exactly when and how to use each tool for optimal learning.

The goal? To gradually help children become independent, confident swimmers who rely on their own abilities and growing comfort in the water, not on equipment.

Questions About Our Teaching Methods?

We’re happy to discuss our approach and explain why we do things the way we do. Understanding our methods helps you feel confident in your child’s swimming education.

Every ribbon represents a milestone in your child’s swimming journey. Our ribbon system celebrates achievement while tracking meaningful progress through our program.

How Our Ribbon System Works

Three ribbons per level. Each ribbon represents mastering a key skill that builds toward confident, capable swimming.

Assessments happen throughout the term. There are no special test days. Your child’s teacher watches for readiness and calls over a Supervisor when they’re ready to demonstrate a skill. It’s a natural, stress-free process—children are simply showing what they’ve learned during regular class time.

Supervisors conduct assessments. Our trained Supervisors ensure every child meets our consistent standard with fair, encouraging assessments that celebrate effort and achievement.

Why This System Works

Each ribbon rewards genuine progress and effort—that moment of pride is valuable for building confidence. The system gives children clear goals to work toward while maintaining consistent teaching standards throughout our swim school.

The best part? Assessments happen when your child is ready, not based on calendar dates. No pressure, just natural progression at their own pace.

When Your Child Completes a Level

When your child earns all three ribbons, they’re ready to progress to the next level. You’ll receive a congratulations email, and they’ll move up to continue building their skills.

What happens next? Our team will help you transfer to an available class in their new level. If there’s no immediate space, your child can stay in their current level while waitlisted. They’ll continue practicing their skills until the perfect spot opens up.

Progress You Can See

Watching your child earn ribbons and progress through our program is one of the most rewarding parts of the swimming journey. Every ribbon represents hours of practice, growing confidence, and developing water skills that will last a lifetime.

Questions about our progress system? We’re happy to explain how we help every child succeed.
